Hole was drilled into the hub and into the base of the resin prop blade to accept a brass rod. The rod assures a strong joint. I then glued the resin blades into place and set them at the correct angle. The thin and elegant shape of the propeller blades was better represented by the Ultracast resin set rather than the kit blades. The old blades are simply cut off of the mounting ring and the new blades were pinned and glued to the ring using brass wire and CA glue. One final look at the major assembly before it gets turned over to the ‘paint shop’.
All of the aftermarket parts were easy replacements, though proper fitting of the armament bays required particularly careful cutting and grinding of the wings to make sure of a good fit. My only complaint about the aftermarket armament is that the feed chutes were too short to reach the guns, a relatively easy fix with the addition of some cut pieces of sheet styrene. The Jaguar resin sidewalls are an excellent addition to the kit. After painting, weathering and some careful drybrushing, they were enhanced with the addition of placards from the Eduard Color photo-etch placard set.
In order to simulate the sharper, more pronounced scratches, I used a fine-point scribing tool and gently scraped away the surface paint. After some modest dry brushing to pull out details, I added some Eduard Color photo-etch placards to the sidewalls and instrument panel, as well as Eduard’s coloured seat belts. The throttle was replicated using a piece of cut syringe tubing. Once all of the pieces were in place, I went back and carefully added bits of chipping to the sidewalls using a Prismacolor chrome pencil sharpened to a fine point.
